Ways Your Escape Room is Losing Customers, and How EscapeAssist Can Help

Customers cannot find you on Google

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is extremely important for escape rooms. Your website needs to look and perform a certain way before search engines will prioritize it in a search.  For example, search engines prefer fast-loading websites, that work on mobile devices, that include appropriate keywords, and have content in HTML text format. EscapeAssist Software helps you make a custom website in a flash with our easy website editor. Our websites are fast loading (we aim to have it load in under half a second), are responsive to any screen size/device, identify your location for GoogleMaps, and contain metadata that appeals to search engines.

One player does not want to front the entire cost for their teammates

Often a player is eager to play an escape room with his/her friends, but does not want to put the whole cost of the game on his/her credit card. This is especially a problem with larger rooms catering to many players. Often a player may be all ready to book, but abandons the checkout because he/she has to round up their friends and figure out how to split the bill. Unfortunately, many of these players will give up, and never book your room. Restaurants are able to split the bill on multiple cards, so why are escape rooms falling behind?

To address this problem, we at EscapeAssist have designed a “Book with Friends” feature to  our booking system that allows split bookings. It allows the eager player to pay for their ticket and reserve the slot for a set period of time, and then sends an email to each of the player’s friends prompting them to pay their share of the bill. The entire transaction must be completed within the set time period, or the escape room owner will keep a portion of the first player’s payment and re-open the slot to the public.

You do not have a streamlined checkout process

Customers are easily distracted.  In 2016 the global average cart abandonment rate was 71.39% and trends see it rising. Many players abandon a transaction before completing the checkout process. Often this is because checkout is confusing, takes too long, or has too many boxes that need to be filled out.

First, you need to make sure your escape room website is user friendly—with clear “Book Now” buttons.  Second, you need a streamlined booking system like EscapeAssist, where players can easily choose a time slot, # of players, and enter their credit card info in just a few moments. It is very important that your booking system is embedded inside your website, because customers hate being transferred to third party booking sites in another tab/window. One way EscapeAssist addresses checkout cart abandonment is by sending follow up emails to players who have partially completed checkout. The email can also contain a coupon code/discount if they come back and complete their booking.

Your schedule is not flexible enough

Most booking systems organize each day into strict hourly slots. But, what if a player cannot make it right on the hour, but could be available by quarter-past, half-past, etc.

EscapeAssist’s booking system is designed to be very flexible and gives you the option to “Cascade Bookings.” This feature gives your customers more booking time options because it automatically cascades available times based on a customer’s preference. For example, rather than the standard 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM slots, you can make two slots: 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM. If the customer books the 10:00 AM slot the 10:30 AM automatically disappears and the schedule cascades accordingly (next available time slot would be 11:00 AM. However, if the customer books the 10:30 AM slot, the 10:00 AM slot automatically disappears, and all the time slots will shift/cascade 30 minutes (next available time slot would be 11:30, and so on).

You do not have enough reviews

Even if your escape room is amazing, players frequently forget to write a review. It is your responsibility as an escape room owner to send follow-up emails gently (or not so gently) reminding each player to leave a review.

EscapeAssist can help you get more reviews.  Our digital waiver is designed to collect contact information for each person who plays your game—that way you can send follow up emails to each player, not just the one that books the room. EscapeAssist sends automatic follow-up emails after each game with personalized team photos and direct links to your chosen review sites.
